Steve Kerchner - Board Member

Steve moved to Cheyenne Canon in 1989 with his wife where they started a family raising a daughter on the trails of North Cheyenne Cañon Park. A retired high school science and math teacher, he led his students on wilderness trips across the US and abroad. Whether sea kayaking in the Everglades, hot tenting in the Maine North Woods, or backpacking through Colca Canyon in Peru, he loved cultivating an appreciation for wild places and adventure in his students. With family and friends, he continues to enjoy mountain biking, river rafting, backpacking, backcountry skiing, fly fishing, birdwatching and any other activity that gets him outdoors. He strongly believes in conservation and stewardship of natural places.

Today, he regularly volunteers for trail work with Medicine Wheel Trail Advocates and RMFI and construction or teaching projects at Concrete Coyote. He joined the FOCC board in August of 2025 and is excited to support a place that has given his family so much over the past 35 years.
